Trey's Toy Room

It's been a while, a LONG while. I have been busy with my jewelry business as well as our house renovations. But, I am happy to say, Trey's toy room is finally almost complete! I'll post a quick preview now, but some time within the next week, I would love to post befores and afters and more pictures.of the finished room. We did this on a major budget, so I want to go into detail about the great bargains we found and the DIYs we did. (We being my husband and I)

Oh, another thing, Trey never used the closet in his room, so hubby took the doors off and installed some custom built-in shelving for my work space and storage area for my handmade jewelry. More on that later! Check back for details and pictures!

My Handmade Island Jewelry

So I mentioned in yesterday's post that I've been away because of my new jewelry business. I'm going to share a little bit of what I make with you. All my of jewelry are "island-inspired." Most of the shells were handpicked my myself and my ohana (family) right here on our beaches in Hawai`i. All jewelry was handmade by me. (Although I wish I'd have a business partner at times.)

Easy Q-tip Skeleton

Meet "Bones" our skeleton. Trey and I just made him today. I found this on pinterest (of course!) and thought it was a quick and fun project to do with minimum supplies that most of us already have at home. The actual link to this project is here.
Now on to the tutorial...
You'll need:
-black or dark cardstock (or any heavy paper)
-regular ol' school glue
-q-tips
-something white to make the face. we used white acrylic paint, but you could use white paper also.
We (Trey and I) didn't plan it out or anything. We just dabbed glue onto the two cotton tips of the q-tips and placed them where we wanted them. There is no right or wrong in this project. You can make your skeleton look however you'd like. After we were done with the body, legs, feet, arms and hands (cut the q-tip in half for those), we painted his head and added a name and of course, the date. Easy! Now let it dry and either frame it or simply hang it on the wall or fridge. I'm thinking about making a bunch on black paper then cutting it out and hanging it with invisible fishing line from the ceiling throughout our house. Happy crafting!

Quick Halloween Crafts

Short on time but want to make some easy Halloween crafts with the kiddos? I found these ideas on pinterest and tried them out with Trey. A bonus for the handprint and footprint projects is that they're great to save as little momentos of how tiny your child's hands and feet were.
I'll be posting the tutorials for these later on today.

We are baaaaack!

Wow, I can't believe it's been about ten and a half months since my last post. This year has been incredibly busy and crazy for me. My mom opened a jewlery store in January and I started working there a few days a week. On top of that, I started making jewelry as a vendor in my mom's shop. It took off right away, so I started my own jewelry-making business. I have an etsy shop for that. Sadly, that left me with little to no time for my Bowtique business and my printable design business. I am trying to get back into blogging, especially with all our holiday crafting coming up. I hope I can keep up during this busy time of year. I will try and take pictures with my good cameras as often as possible, but I'm going to apologize in advance as most of my pictures will probably be taken with my new Samsung Galaxy 3. I won't leave you without a picture. Trey and I are finishing these foam pumpkins right now. It's 10:30 pm here in Hawai`i so he's gotta get to bed, but before I go...

It's been a week!

I've been busy. Decorating. CHRISTMAS decorating! lol. I've made a lot of my own stuff. That's what we've been doing. Also, I have picture and tutorials on everything but I'm waiting to get our tree (tomorrow! yay!) to post my decorations. I wanna take nice, clear pictures of everything. Of course, on top of all that, I broke out the sewing machine and started getting back into sewing. (I actually SUCK at sewing.) I've made quite a few cute things in the last 3 days, though. Cute and easy!!!! The latest is a ruffled scarf made from an ugly, big old lady's dress I got for free from the thrift store. Tutorial coming (hopefully) tomorrow. Also- remember that post I made about all the free sweaters I got from the same place? Those too were big and ugly. Until last night when I made Trey some scraves and beanies out of them to keep his little head, neck and ears warm:) More on that later!

2-Minute Snowman Candy Dish

Seriously, it took me literally two minutes to do this! I JUST finished this project. Just uploaded the picture.

You'll need:

•  A plain vase, bowl, candle holder, anything glass.
• Old white/cream/ivory sweater
• Two black buttons
• Triangle of orange felt/tissue paper/fabric for the nose.
• Black pen. (Fabric or sharpie) for the mouth.
• Hot glue/glue gun

Cut part of a sleeve off of your sweater. Slip it around the glass. Glue bottom edges of the sweater to the bottom of your glass. Glue eyes and the nose. Dot the mouth on. Fill with candy. You could also add a scarf around Jack Frost's "neck" if you'd like:)
